As a older person of color, or 'black' (generic term), I can't stand what urban raised black folks have done to the image of black people, or those deemed as...why?
Cause I know this sounds like a clique, but yes, not all B males are thugs or felons or ex-felons or this or that, or fill in any other negative stereotype...although with all the recent videos on social media, are those thuggish traits stereotypes anymore??
And that's what I hate, is that for generations, black folks went out of their way to clean up ugly images bestowed upon them, us, then suddenly this rap generation, beginning at around 2000 or so, just set out to reverse all the positive gains made by black folks before them.
That and social media, and that fact that since every phone is a camera, in the past most people never got to see what 'thugs' did in the ghetto, that stuff stayed hidden and off air, but not anymore, now every goonish act a thug does is filmed on a 1 phone and shared to the world, which totally justifies peoples resentment towards them or us.
And I hate that!!
I hate being feared, feared for my talent, sure, feared for my savvy mind, sure, but feared for being some irresponsible mindless thug, no.
And as you age, that fear makes it harder for you to move up into a better neighborhood, especially if single and male.
Perception is everything.
Thugs, city ones, they'll never leave their areas, so they have no idea what it's like to be a black male or female trying to live in Wyoming or Montana or Idaho, or areas where the black population is less than 5%.
Everyone looks at you as if they just expect you to be a bad person.
I blame this on black inner city thug types, or the thug culture, more so than I do 'white folks', cause white folks didn't create the monster thug image, black folks did!, at least inner city ones, which now all of us are measured by.
