I mean let's face it, the older we get, the more we lose value to others, particularly if alone and single and have no family relations.
I mean just remember how you yourself viewed the elderly when you were in your teens or early 20's, you, we, viewed them like relics that were simply in the way, slow minded, and like 'Why are you even still here' type of thoughts we had towards the elderly when most of us were younger, then one day you find yourself on the receiving end of those thoughts.
I mean sure it's one thing if a grandfather or grandmother within a intact family unit, where you get visits and all on the Holidays, little 'Charlie' running around your legs and all, but remove that 'picture' and what if of grandparent age, or even great grandparent age, but don't have no immediate family relations and simply live alone, then what?
I guess if all else fails, most depend on the Government to protect them as they age through 'programs'...that is if in a wealthy Western nation.
But it's not just about physical protection all the time, it can be about 'comforting protection'...but when older, particularly if a male, single, alone and near broke, than who comforts you?
Most males, outside of their own Fathers, are really on their own after that, for outside of own Father's, while younger, as a male you'll be hard pressed to receive a comforting hug from another stronger man figure, unless either gay or have gay male friends...but that sad thing is is that comfort hugs have nothing to do with being gay, but so many men who are raised in homophobic societies have been conditioned to think so.

I think aging males have it the worst I think aging males who are working class, check to check types, have it the worst as they age, is why you just don't see to many single, alone, older working class males around or alive over the age of 60, if they are still alive, most are married, and the wife is who takes care of them, a mutual thing of course.
On the other hand you see a ton of older females over the age of 60 living alone, cause females are more likely, than older males, to garner protection from society and family, and or even friends, that older males just cannot garner.
When an older male, particularly if didn't take care of self when younger, you're basically seen as 'worthless', a worthless relic that just takes up space....no longer romancey, no longer active, behind the times and more.
Men may be more valued collectively when younger and sporty and 'hot' and romancey and rich and this and that, but once out of that 'zone', the social decline is fast and swift.
It's only wealthy older men who retain value to society and those around them.
Look at some of these older billionaires or politicians, and ask yourself if they were 'broke', what value would they have to anyone?
No one really likes being around a older broke man.

Well I'm not there yet, but it's one reason why I so try to stay fit, in all ways, including skin care, hair care, dietary care and more, cause I realize the minute I take on that 'old person look', is the minute I'm diminished in the eyes of others, more so than am now.
Is why I never take my health for granted, it won't last forever, but while I have it, I want to keep it.
At my job, when others sit around doing nothing while waiting for next assignment, not me, I work out.
And I see guys younger than me already taking on that dreaded 'old person walk', where you start walking around with stiff limbs...why?
Do not guys realize that time ticks quicker on them than on women?
Obviously not, and it's usually older guys who are married, who let their health fail cause so use to being taken care of by a female, but when, if, that female should leave them, then their life goes to sh-t quick, cause they don't know how to take care of self, first baby fed by Mom, then baby fed by girlfriend, then baby fed by wife...and when single again, they're useless.
But only if of the check to check working class, if rich/wealthy, they could look like Yoda from Star Wars and still have a heroin of women around them.
