I'm really thinking about changing the title of this thread, and moving the trucking diary section way down below or beneath someone else on here.
I'm to abstract for your common trucker who is very blue collar, married, and very one dimensional.
Where's boots, plead shirt, short hair, and listens to talk radio.
I can be that too, at times, but am much much more than that.
I can't confine myself into just one 'expression' or 'self'.
Most truckers, their mentalities, are like this.
Basically just a rock, a stone, petrified in thoughts and action.
I could write a script of how typical trucker acts, thinks, type of mood and outlook they have ect, yawn.
Todays trucker is not anyone I'd want to party with, that's for sure.
On the other hand, I'm more like this.
I'm not ready to die yet, not ready to let environment define me, not ready to become some emotionally dead, post romanceual, dull, politically grouchy, Rush Limbaugh worshiping horned toad.
I'm way more colorful than your average trucker, I don't conform.
Sure when at work, whatever job I happen to be doing, I do it well, but I have personality, lots of it, and emotion.
And I refuse to let creative youthful self on the inside die, be over ran, by the grey like environment, lack of emotion, displayed by most other drivers, who just seem totally lifeless most of the time, as if they've been castrated.
They drive around listening to sickening talk radio all day, so step out of trucks already bitter and mad at the world, and or anyone they don't think fits their ideal of what a 'true American' should look like or be.
Some drivers still try to be fun and have personality, but they're hard and few to find anymore.
Many are just to old now to relate to anymore in meaningful manner.
Todays older drivers aren't yesteryears hippie cowboy rowdy types, don't confuse the two.
The old style rowdy types maybe still ride in Oklahoma or something, or the bad lands, the Dakotas ect...
The types who made trucking and trucking personalities legendary back in the 60's and 70's and 80's.
Very colorful types who had personas more like WWF wrestlers.
They're all but gone now, dead or retired.
Replaced instead by soulless pasty types with no flavor at all what so ever.
(soulless as in no trucking soul), not in their genes, just a job to them.
Todays trucker will honk at you rather than see why you're pulling over onto shoulder.
Todays trucker will take your parking spot, even as they see you're setting up to back into it.
Todays trucker no longer gives bear reports, accident up dates, nothing.
Just on cell phone all the time.
And seems the only young drivers getting into trucking now are foreign drivers, or Hispanics, or younger urban males.
At least the OTR type of driving.
There's just no unity anymore, every ones on their own Island now.
Drivers seem to have totally disdain for one another now days.
And basically act, drive, like 4 wheelers in rigs.
Rude F's pass, and get over without using turn signals, upset you didn't 'flash' them over but never occurring to them maybe your hands were tied up, or busy shifting ect.
Anyways, I don't mind driving still, all I know is I have to be home daily, in no way shape or form could I sleep in a truck anymore, there's totally nothing out there for me anymore, never really was, I think I was just delusional earlier.
Driving I can still do, but it just can't dominate my whole life, my whole schedule, like it did before.
That's just a slow social and physical death.
And maybe one day, within a year, I'll simply get own truck again, after all I did use to be a owner operator.
But this time will put someone in truck from day one.
As I get older trying to work less and manage more, not work more and be managed.
Anyways, this long rant is over. (for now)
